  15. <p>     RETIRING. ALEXANDER LIBERMAN, 81, sculptor and editorial director
  16. of Conde Nast Publications; in New York City. After joining
  17. the staff of Conde Nast's Vogue in 1941, Liberman, a Russian
  18. emigre, became art director in just two years, aided by an expansive
  19. view of fashion photography and a raucous yet elegant sense
  20. of design. Since 1962 he has overseen the company's entire roster
  21. of magazines: glossy showcases such as Vanity Fair and GQ, as
  22. well as more lumpen mainstays Glamour and Brides.
